Today I stumbled upon two interesting history-related talks. As a warm-up Hoover Institutes’ Uncommon Knowledge series featured an episode with Niall Ferguson, Victor Davis Hanson, and Andrew Roberts who offered solid rebuttals to recent history revisionism such as the 1619 project and weigh in on the “Churchill was really the WW2 bad guy after all” discourse. They discuss how misinformation and misrepresentations of history have circulated these past few years and through their wealth of knowledge “bring the receipts” and some clarity around these subjects.
The second one was from heterodox podcaster Dad Saves America’s interview with German historian and sociologist Rainer Zietelamn, whose expertise is Hitler’s social, economic, and interior politics. The title is “What Modern Socialists Don’t Want You To Know About Hitler.” He addresses the questions of what exactly socialism is, whether Hitler a socialist, and how we compare policies between present and past. They also talk about what is fascism and where we see echoes in the present. It was a fascinating talk and a lot of ground was covered.
